Most people who get into internet marketing get it wrong, really wrong. And you are probably one of those people. I say this to get you to think about what you do, and not to imply that I'm any better than you, because to be honest, my own business suffers when I decide to “do it all myself.”
Internet Marketers are trying to make money online. However, they (or we) make more money with the “Marketing” and less with the “Internet.”
What does that mean? Well let me tell you.
Building a website? Doesn't make you money…
Setting up a Facebook page? Doesn't make you money…
Watching the latest free training about internet marketing on YouTube? Doesn't make you money…
People clicking on your buy buttons, buying your products, and sending you money? THAT MAKES YOU MONEY!
People clicking on your affiliate links, buying someone else's product, and you getting a commission for that sale? THAT MAKES YOU MONEY!
Do you see a pattern here? Not everything you do, on it's own, makes you money.
But here's the thing… the things that make you money are tied MORE to the MARKETING and LESS to the INTERNET.
So Why Do Internet Marketers Fail So Miserably?
They (or we) fail because of a mindset that probably gets instilled in us at a young age, which is, “a good day's work gets you a good day's pay.”
And if you are digging ditches, or packing boxes, or folding sweaters for someone else, and they pay you for your time, well, then you make money.
So at some point we decide that being “busy” is a good thing, that we need to be “grinding” away to be able to make money.
But the truth is that staying “busy” is easy. In fact, the number one reason people fail in internet marketing is that they confuse being “busy” with being “successful” or at least “getting it done.”
Don't confuse activity with progress.
The Secret That's Staring You In The Face
Internet Marketing is a bit of a misnomer. The truth is, if you are trying to be an internet marketer, you are really just trying to be a salesman on the internet.
And that is one of the biggest reasons people don't succeed. People don't like to sell.
It's also why people keep buying into these “push-button” systems that promise massive wealth and traffic with practically no work.
It's not that people don't want to work.
People just don't want to sell.
And that's a shame, because without making sales, you don't make money.
A Bit Of Light At The End Of The Tunnel
Now I keep talking about how internet marketers are salesmen and they need to be making sales to be able to make money.
Well, here's a little rub to that.
Making sales and “selling” are two different things.
Most people think of salespeople as the typical used-car salesman. All hypey and smarmy and annoying.
And most internet marketers don't want to be like that, so they avoid it. And so they fail.
This is also why internet marketers tend to spend more time with the “internet” and less time with the “marketing.”
It's easier to spend a week “learning” how to create a WordPress site than it is to actually create something to sell that they have to ask someone else to buy.
And no matter how many products you buy, classes you take, and “coaches” you hire, you will continue to fail until you start to sell stuff.
There is NO way around it.
And this is why you need to change your attitude and start giving reasons for people to start buying your stuff and less reasons for you to go and keep buying and “learning” and “creating” and “researching.”
Like they say on that shoe commercial… Just F***ing Do It!
